Jacobs, also known as "Jakes" and "Al-jo" to many teammates, started playing hockey at the age of six. He says his parents and previous coaches have been very influential in his hockey development. Jacobs' most memorable hockey moment was winning the 2009 USA Hockey Midget Major National Championship. Jacobs' favorite NHL team is the Detroit Red Wings and his hockey idols are Steve Yzerman and Nick Lidstrom. Besides playing hockey, Jacobs enjoys golf, tennis, ping-pong, watching TV and reading. He likes to listen to all kinds of music. Jacobs' favorite food is Chinese food and pizza and his favorite arena food is chicken fingers.
